Essential oils are used as home remedies for treating various ailments. They are extracted from different natural sources after which the oils can be used in various forms. Essential oils has received a lot of hype in the beauty and wellness industry. Having said that, it is also one of the natural ways to pamper your mind, body and spirit in a holistic way. It is believed that essential oils has numerous benefits that can help develop our senses and enhance the quality of living.

Peppermint has been used in alternative medicines for thousands of years. It is one of the most popular essential oils for treating headaches. It has a cooling effect that enables to release the pain and calm down the deteriorating sensation. Peppermint can be used as a treatment for treating headaches and this remedy can be used either by massaging it into the skin, inhaling or consuming capsules at times of headache. It helps in the proper circulation of blood flow and helps to open up the sinuses for a better oxygen flow.

Ylang Ylang Oil

This is made from the flowers of the herb Cananga odorata. It helps to lower blood pressure and promote relaxation. It has anti-depressant, antiseptic and nervine properties and also acts as a wonderful aphrodisiac. It is used as a fragrance and in cosmetic products as well. Lemongrass Oil

It has a fresh and citrusy scent and this oil is often used in aroma therapies. Even though in the ancient times, lemongrass was used as a medicine to treat digestive problems and regulate blood pressure but with more research, it has been found that this essential oil is also highly beneficial to calm down stress, anxiety and depression. Because of its anti-bacterial properties, it also plays a major role in treating various skin infections, blood infections and various other intestinal infections.

Applying oil to the temples or forehead: Essential oils need to be diluted with a carrier oil, such as coconut oil, before they can be applied to the skin. Once diluted, the oil can be massaged into the temples and across the forehead.

Essentials oils can be inhaled by adding a few drops to a tissue, holding the tissue under the nose and breathing deeply. Aromatherapy is considered to be one of the effective ways to combat headaches and migraines and this inhaling process enables the sinuses to open up and allow for a better oxygen flow.

Create a compress by soaking a towel in cold water with a few drops of essential oil. The compress can be applied to the forehead or neck. Whenever one is suffering from a headache, be it a normal pain or a migraine pain, it is essential to put the required pressure in the affected area so that the pain gets supressed.

Adding a few drops of essential oil to a hot bath can be a relaxing way to treat a headache. Mixing few drops of the essential oil in a tub of hot water can produce the desired result and thus allow for a soothing and relaxing effect, thus cutting down on the stress.

Essential oils can be used as a vaporizer to get rid of sinusitis headaches. Diffusers can be used to allow the essential oil to vaporize and get mixed with the air. Inhaling this oil from time to time provides a calming effect to the brain thus making the environment free from any stress and tension.

Headaches are of different types so different methods will have to be followed keeping a check on which type of headache the victim is suffering from.
